Dental Bridges

A dental bridge serves as a replacement for one or more missing teeth, providing an effective solution, especially when the gaps are limited or concentrated on one side of the mouth. By filling in these spaces, bridges prevent the remaining teeth from shifting out of position and help restore the natural appearance of your smile.

How is a dental bridge fitted?

At Eltham Dental, our dentist will conduct a thorough examination of your teeth and jaw during your initial appointment to determine the most suitable treatment plan. If your teeth have sufficient strength and good bone support, a bridge may be recommended to restore your smile.

During the fitting process, an impression of your mouth will be taken to create a plaster model of your teeth and gums. This helps the dentist understand how your teeth bite together. Your teeth will then be prepared to accommodate the bridge: the adjacent teeth to the gap will be gently reduced in size to ensure a comfortable fit for the bridge.

A second impression is taken to craft a bridge that perfectly matches your mouth. The bridge can be made from metal, porcelain, or a combination of both. The replacement tooth fixed within the bridge will be color-matched to blend seamlessly with your natural teeth. In the meantime, a temporary bridge or crown may be fitted to protect your exposed gum and teeth.

Once the bridge is ready, it will be carefully fitted by our dentist, ensuring it is comfortable before being securely fixed in place.

FAQ's

A dental bridge is a fixed dental restoration used to replace one or more missing teeth. It consists of artificial teeth (pontics) anchored to adjacent natural teeth or dental implants.
The lifespan of a dental bridge can vary depending on factors such as oral hygiene practices, overall health, and the materials used. On average, dental bridges can last anywhere from 5 to 15 years or more with proper care.
The process of getting a dental bridge typically involves numbing the teeth and surrounding area with local anesthesia, so you should not feel any pain during the procedure. Some patients may experience minor discomfort or sensitivity afterward, which usually subsides within a few days.
Proper oral hygiene is essential for maintaining the longevity of a dental bridge. This includes brushing twice a day, flossing daily, and regular dental check-ups. Avoiding hard or sticky foods can also help prevent damage to the bridge.
